Collaborative storytelling
Overview
I would like to share with you my experience in making a communal storytelling card deck. First I will show you the process of how the cards came to be from words to concepts to etches on metal to prints. After that, I'll walk you through how the stories came to be. Finally, I will share with you my first reading with the cards.

The stories
The cards were ready and we moved on to hear what they had to say, writing down stories that resonated with them.
The question

The last step in this wonderful experience was to consult the cards regarding a question I had in mind. Below are the cards that I got. I leave up to you dear reader, to find meaning.

"Is it my intuition or am I afraid?"

What the cards told me was that it does not matter, just do what feels right and you can confidently stand behind your actions.

The cards

Words

Through a series of drawing and word association exercises we chose words that resonated with us and wrote down what do those words mean to us. Eventually each of us chose three concepts to base our card designs on.

Metal

Next step was to etch our concepts on a thin metal sheet. I was able to experiment with many different kinds of tools and materials - very cool.

Ink

The messy bit. I lathered a layer of ink on top of the metal sheet which had the picture etched. The ink needed to be buffed into the grooves, but excess to be taken out so the picture remains clear and confined.

Paper

A moment of peace was found when we took a piece of paper, made it wet, and let it dry just so that it would be porous enough to take in the ink, but not too moist to wick it. The sun was warm.

Print

The metal plate was aligned carefully to ensure a clean and straight outcome.

Result

After putting the metal plate through the print, this funny little thing came out.

Last step was to press the cards so they do not curl while drying.
